A detailed description of the RC Scales development process is provided by Tellegen et al. The RC Scales were designed to address conceptual overlap and content heterogeneity (Loevinger, 1972 Norman, 1972). In 2008, a shorter revised version of the MMPI-2, the MMPI-2–Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF Ben-Porath & Tellegen, 2011 Tellegen & Ben-Porath, 2011) was released with the Restructured Clinical (RC) Scales (Tellegen et al., 2003) at its core. Implications of the results, limitations, and recommendations for future research are discussed. Overall, the findings indicate that consistent with previous findings, the RC Scales generally exhibit comparable to improved psychometric properties over the Clinical Scales. Furthermore, external analyses revealed comparable or improved convergent validity (with the exceptions of Antisocial Behavior and Ideas of Persecution among men), and mostly greater discriminant validity. Results indicated that in most instances the RC Scales demonstrated equivalent or better internal consistencies and improved intercorrelation patterns relative to their clinical counterparts. Participants were administered the MMPI-2 and were rated by their therapists on a 188-item Patient Description Form.
